In the lecture, I will discuss two key themes in my research: language policy and cultural trauma in Serbia and the region. Regarding the first topic, I will examine research on minority languages in education, past and present, as well as the issue of gender-sensitive language, which has recently sparked significant controversy in Serbian society. Regarding the second topic, I will examine the relationship between Ottoman heritage and the traumatic past in various social domains and cultural genres. I will also discuss the cultural trauma experienced by Bosniaks. In the second part of the lecture, I will look at the student and environmental protests in Serbia which are currently taking place and how these protests are connected to the previous topics, namely the language of the protests, the relationship with the Bosniak Muslim community in the protests and the appearance of war veterans in the demonstrations.
