Translocal Solidarity – How, and Where, to Build and Maintain Pathways of Social Change?

The current state of the world leaves many of us disoriented: democratic backsliding, right-wing shift and disillusionment towards politics, institutions and the rule of law are taking place in various societies across the globe. Within all of this, one asks: What can I actually do? For those whose countries of origin are different from country of residence, there is an additional question: What can I actually do from afar?

As the crisis is crossing borders, our thinking, problemsolving and doing also need to go  translocal and create different pathways for social change.

In an open discussion format, two initiatives will present and discuss their actions, projects and practices: a grassroots, independent citizen‘s group based in Berlin, which focuses on political education and support for the anti-autocratic fight in Serbia, and an a-local indepedent academic solidarity network, which is building international connections between various academic communities in repression, including the student-led and citizens‘ movement in Serbia.

Unlike the usual panel format, this is conceptualized as a open discussion with facilitation. Various backgrounds and experiences welcome. To ensure a fruitful discussion, registration is required.

Discussion Facilitators: Sara Marencic, MA (Teaching and Research Assistant, Institute for Slavic and Hungarian Studies, HU) and Prof. Dr. Christian Voß (Institute for Slavic and Hungarian Studies, HU)

The event is in English.
