The Berlin workshop explores bilateral translation processes in relation to the Greek literary field and its transnational connections. It examines, on the one hand, the ways in which (Modern) Greek literature acquires a global dimension—both as an aesthetic and a social practice—through its international entanglements and the reception and literary or visual appropriation of its motifs, tropes, and myths in other literatures and cultures. Conversely, it addresses the dissemination of foreign literature within the Greek field of translation. The workshop focuses on how literary globality is achieved: how the local is translated into the global and vice versa, the role of intellectual, academic and diasporic networks, as well as the ways in which ideology, mobility and/or literary value shape the canonization of literature.
